Being environmentally conscious is something that we as Americans must become accustomed to. Some people call it "being green", others call it being energy efficient. Regardless of what you may call it, environmentally conscious realtors, buyers, and sellers are making a difference in today's society. This is appropriate not only for sustaining our earth, but also for sustenance of our pockets in the short and long run.
According to the McGraw-Hill Construction Residential Green Building SmartMarket Report, Green homes are expected to comprise 10 % of all new home construction by 2010. You may not be able to purchase biofoam insulation, a geothermal heat exchange, or therma-crete walls. It may be possible for you to purchase an energy efficient furnace, hot water heater, and kitchen appliances. New thermopane windows or caulking old windows always helps. Flourescent lighting or low wattage light bulbs can save quite a bit of cash also.
There are tax incentives for buildings that are energy and environmentally designed. Contact (www.leedbuilding.org) for more information.
